Waffles Day 25. Mars

Scandinivan waffles are thin and made in heartshape. The batter is similar to other varieties. There are American, Belgian, Hong Kong and the LIege waffles. The most common style are sweet, with whipped cream and strawberry/raspberry jam, sugar, on top. Here in  Norway we have slices with brown cheese (this cheese are sweet, yummy) just as a topping. Sausage in the waffle is traditional food from Moss in Østfold and some places in Sweden. The court consists of grilled sausage or wiener sausage that is rolled into waffle. The Swedish tradition dates at least to the 1400s, and there is even a particular day for the purpose, Vårfrudagen ("Our Lady's Day, which sounds like Våffeldagen (waffle day), and is therefore used for the purpose. This is March 25 to celabrate waffel.

Below is some common recipes for Norwegian Waffles

Everyday Waffles

500 ml plain flour
2 teaspoon baking powder
100 ml sugar
500 ml milk
2 eggs
50 ml melted butter
1 or 2  teaspoon of cardamum or vanilla sugar if you want

Method
Make a smooth batter with the flour, baking powder, sugar and milk. Beat in the eggs and butter (and vanilla). Let the batter set for 30 minutes before cooking in a waffle maker.

Sour Cream Waffles

500 ml sour cream (full cream)
4 eggs
250 ml plain flour
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
150 ml water

Method
Make a smooth batter with all the ingredients. Set for 30 minutes before cooking in a waffle maker.

Sour Cream Waffles without eggs

600 ml sour cream
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
220 g plain flour
200 ml water

1 or 2  teaspoon of cardamum or vanilla sugar if you want

Method
Make a smooth batter with all the ingredients. Set for 30 minutes before cooking in a waffle maker.

Waffles with Oatflakes

Oat flakes contain healthy unsaturated fats and gives a great taste.

300 ml rolled oats
200 ml plain flour
4 tablespoons sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons cardamum or vanilla sugar
600 ml milk (fresh or soured)
2 eggs
4 tablespoons liquid margarin or oil

Method
Mix dry ingredisnts. Add milk and stir until smooth. Beat eggs and mix in the batter with margarin/oil. Set for 30 minutes before cooking in a waffle maker.
